Thamizh wikipedia reaches 60th position among all the languages and 2nd in india in terms of number of articles... :)

Hope almost all of us(especially whose life&survival quite depends on google, wiki) know very well about english wikipedia.   How may of us know about the wikipedia in our mother tongue..?

For thamizh we have http://ta.wikipedia.org

Some more details:
Thamizh is the 18-th most spoken language in the world (terms of no. of speakers)(have doubt..? or want proof..? google it..)

Total no.of articles in thamizh wikipedia is about 51,500

Thamizh wikipedia is@60-th position with all other languages(based on no.of articles) and 2nd in india(hindi holds 1-st position, telugu at 3-rd position) http://meta.wikimedia.org/wiki/List_of_Wikipedias

Good news is anyone can edit(either as a registered user or anonamouly) articles in thamizh(any language-ofcourse if you know the language) wikipedia.  So, give a try.

Wikipedia is the 5th most accessed website in the world, running only by the funds from public, maintained by a non-profit organization, since its starting not showed a single commercial advertisement, and never in the future.

Note:  All the details/statistics furnished above are as on 13-2-2013.

A simple anology of English & Helmet

A simple analogy of English Vs Helmet.

Do you wear your helmet while eating in restaurant..? Do you wear helmet when you are traveling in a bus..? Do you wear a helmet when you are jogging in a beach..?  Do you wear a helmet while posing to a photo..? Do you wear a helmet while cycling..?  Do you wear a helmet while you bathing..?

Ans: No we don't.

Do you speak in English with your friend even you both know Thamizh well..? Do you speak in English while eating/ordering food in restaurant in Tamilnadu..? Do you speak in english while you traveling in a bus...?  Do you speak in english in a thamizh program which is going to be telecast in thamizh channel..?...

Ans: A Shameless YES we do.

So, When we need do wear helmet...? when it is really needed.  i.e, While driving bike.  But we don't ;-)

So, When we need do speak in English...? when it is really needed.  i.e, the opposite person(s) don't know Thamizh, and English is the only medium to communicate.  But we are....?

Very simply... "Use it when actually needed"

See the japanese, chinese people....

Remember am not opposing to (learn/speak) english... use it accordingly.  And don't forget thamizh (yes it's (y)our mother tongue.)

People here are not able to distinguish between english & knowledge, beauty & white in color.

"English is a language not knowledge.. White is a color not beauty.."

P.S:  Just i did write what i thought, what is my view/stance(since long time)...  If it hurts(anybody), just bear it :).  Because, its true(fact fact fact factuuuuuu Thanks to actor santhanam.).

How to view tamil(or any regional language) websites, blogspots in android phones without installing fonts?

1. Install opera mini from google play
2. Launch the opera mini browser in your mobile
3. In the address bar type "opera:config" [without quotes]
4. Scroll to the end of the page & search for "use bitmap font for complex scripts" and enable(yes) it.

Thats all... :) now open any tamil web page that will be looks properly.

Note:
1. Remember with this method you can only view the web pages in tamil(or any other language) and you can't write.  But one is not needed to install any fonts.
2. With this method, actually the browser shows the full web page as a bitmap image.  So, regardless of language all the webpages will be rendered properly.

Are you facing the font rendering problem in your tamil-blog..?

My tamil blog fonts are not rendering correctly in browser...
Here is the correct solution..
What to do:
1. Do remove Freesans, Freeseriff, sans-seriff fonts from your blog's template.

How to do:
1. Open your tamil-blog in browser and sign-in [in top-right corner]
2. In Design view click on template --> Edit Html --> Proceed

3. Copy the full html content into your text editor (notepad/gedit)
4.  Then find & remove the Freesans, Freeserif, sans-seriff fonts from all styles(css)
5. Save the template(Modification)
Note: You can see the preview of your changes, and accordingly customize/fine-tune your template.
6. Once you are satisfied save the template.. thats all.

Conclusion:
For make your blog/website to be better rendered with tamil fonts in all machines & browsers
1. It is advised don't use Freesans, Freeserif fonts in your blog/website.  We are not sure all the machines have the font Freesans, Freeserif.
If you want to see other's blog/website which is not rendered properly with tamil fonts
